Bridging the Divide: Addressing Sexual Concerns in EFT Couples Therapy

Have you experienced the dilemma of helping couples achieve greater emotional connection through EFT, and yet found that this does not always translate directly into greater sexual desire, contact and flexibility between the partners?

This workshop will present a frame for understanding that dilemma and offer approaches for more fully integrating sexual concerns into our EFT work, with the goal of helping couples share a more vibrant sexual connection.

Because so many couples show up in couples therapy with (often unnamed) sexual concerns, couples therapists are de facto sex therapists as well.  Sex is an important part of a couple’s bond, yet even the most seasoned EFT couples’ therapists often feel at a loss for how to work with a couple’s sexual cycle. This is because couples therapy and sex therapy have long been divided into separate worlds.  Yet, as EFT therapists, you already have many of the skills to work effectively your clients’ sexual relationship concerns.

Join EFT Trainer Dr. Silvina Irwin and Supervisor Dr. Lisa Blum in this immersive 2-day training for EFT therapists to address how to work effectively with a couple’s sexual concerns. You'll leave equipped to work thoughtfully and effectively with the sexual dimension of your clients' relationships. We will offer discussions on theoretical foundations, clinical interventions, assessment protocols, and explore behavioral exercises to integrate immediately into your EFT practice.  Clinical videos will also be shared to bring these interventions and concepts alive.  Walk away with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and clinical judgment to meet this need head-on.

What you'll gain:

  • Conceptual understanding on how attachment and sexual systems inform one another

  • Clinical interventions to assess the couple’s negative sexual cycle, and where to begin to intervene

  • Assessment of both the couple’s and individuals’ sexual history, crucial for understanding their sexual cycle dynamics

  • Real clinical session video review and small-group practice to make it stick
