Core Skills: Thousand Oaks 2017 will be presented by EFT Trainers Drs. Nancy Gardner and Lisa Palmer-Olsen at Courtyard Marriott Thousand Oaks (1710 Newbury Road Thousand Oaks CA 91320).

The training consists of four two-day workshops, and each day will contain instruction on group supervision of EFT work according to the guidelines set by the Centre for Excellence in EFT (in Ottawa).

Each weekend provides twelve hours of training. When you sign up for the course, you are committing to your intention to complete all training modules listed below.

There will be an opportunity for participants to get feedback on videos of their own work with clients. Bringing your own video to view is necessary to meet the Advanced Externship requirement of certification. 

Attendance meets the ICEEFT course requirement when applying for Certified EFT Therapist designation. 

The only outstanding requirement for certification after attending Core Skills training is eight hours of individual supervision. The application process is described on

About the Trainers

Core Skills: Thousand Oaks 2017 will be presented by EFT certified trainers and supervisors Drs. Nancy Gardner and Lisa Palmer-Olsen.   


Nancy Gardner, Ph.D., is a co-founder and the immediate past president of the Los Angeles Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (LACEFT). Dr. Gardner is certified as a Trainer, Therapist and Supervisor in  Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  Dr. Gardner has been a mental health professional for over forty years.  She has worked all of those years as a therapist, and for most them, she has also been a supervisor and teacher of therapists. She is a AAMFT Approved Supervisor and a CAMFT Certified Supervisor. She taught Couple Therapy for over a decade at Alliant International University in Los Angeles, chaired the Couple Therapy Special Interest Group for Los Angeles Psychological Association (LACPA), and is a Past President of LACPA.  Dr. Gardner is a frequent presenter at local conferences, generally on a topics related to couples. Her private practice is in Westlake Village, CA.


Lisa Palmer-Olsen, Psy.D. is a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Diego California. She is a Certified EFT Trainer and Supervisor and is a Founder and one of the Directors of the Emotionally Focused Couples Training and Research Institute at Alliant International University. Lisa completed her dissertation research on how to train and teach Emotionally Focused Couples therapy to professionals. Dr. Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT and Dr. Scott Woolley were part of her dissertation committee.

Dr. Palmer-Olsen’s primary clinical and research interests are in the areas of couple and family therapy; specifically with those couples and families dealing with trauma and attachment related struggles. She is an AAMFT clinical member and approved AAMFT supervisor.

Dr. Palmer-Olsen is also co-founder and clinic director for the Alliant Couple and Family Clinic (ACFC), San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit therapy clinic. The ACFC specializes in family and couple therapy offering individual and group counseling sessions for military and all clients in distressed relationships. Affiliated with Alliant International University, the ACFC is a training clinic for master’s and doctoral students to earn their clinical hours for graduation. As the clinical director, Dr. Palmer-Olsen supervises and teaches the EFT model, as well as works families herself.

Participants must be familiar with and abide by professional and legal confidentiality requirements regarding all client information shared in the training. Certification in EFT is offered by ICEEFT based on completion of all requirements and demonstrated competence in the model. Completion of training does not guarantee competence or certification. Enrollment in this training constitutes an agreement to hold harmless all presenters and trainers from any and all claims, actions, and judgements, including all costs of defense and attorney’s fees incurred in defending against the same.

The cost is $450 per module (payment due prior to the weekend of the module), or $1700 if the entire series is paid-in-full upfront ($100 discount). Lodging and food not included. A minimum of ten participants is required for the training to proceed.

Prerequisites, Qualifications, and Agreements

Participants must:

  1. have completed an ICEEFT-approved externship in EFT.
  2. be licensed therapists or license-eligible psychotherapy interns or otherwise legally allowed to practice as mental health professionals.
  3. be using EFT with at least one couple who is willing to be videotaped for case consultation.

Completing the registration and first payment enrolls the applicant in the full course series and reserves the space for attendance in all sessions of the training and is a declaration of intent to complete the course. This is important because space in the course is limited.

We have found over the years that Core Skills works best when all participants attend all sessions. However we know sometimes exceptions need to be made. We will do our best to work with you regarding special and unforeseen circumstances.
